Business travel remains optimistic despite slowdown warning signs

The business travel sector is still bullish on growth, even if financial markets have entered a state of uncertainty.


With a lingering government shutdown affecting travel to and from the U.S., and economic headwinds in play following instability in global stock markets, there is some concern that global business travel growth will be affected in 2019.

Bigger travel budgets for 30% of European buyers

One third of buyers will have bigger corporate travel budgets in 2019, according to research by the Business Travel Show. This is on par with 2017, but down from 40 per cent last year. The poll of 134 European buyers also showed a slight increase in the number of budgets on the downturn – from 13 per cent in 2018 to 15 per cent next year.

UK - Buyers have bigger budgets for 2019

One third of corporate travel buyers say they will have bigger budgets in 2019, but the proportion of positive respondents is lower than in 2018, according to research.
The annual survey of 134 buyers by the Business Travel Show also showed a troubling trend – 15 per cent of respondents said they think they will have lower budgets this year, compared to 13 per cent who felt the same in 2018.
